Dec06 Intel Mac Gaming- Mac Gamers, have you wondered about the status of Mac gaming since the arrival of Intel Macs?
  • Intel Macs do not support Classic Mac (OS9 and older) games.
  • On Intel Macs, OSX games will run by means of Rosetta but not as well as by means of a Universal Binary update.
  • Mac OSX games that have been updated with a Universal Binary allow those games to run on previous PPC Macs and natively on new Intel Macs, resulting in huge game performance increases for intel Macs.
  • Boot Camp allows Intel Macs to install Windows and run PC games natively and at speeds equivalent to PCs.
  • Apple.com includes a long list of games with an icon identifying Universal Binary games.
  • MacRumors includes a list of Universal Binary Mac Games.
  • Visit the Inside Mac Games Windows Gaming forum for lots of specific Windows gaming (on a Mac) info.

12/05 iCal Update- iCal has been working properly for the Miniapple Calendar. HTML links appear properly and the calendar data has not self-wiped recently. The latest version is 1.5.5. Backups for all important data is recommended. Due to an event where all of the club's meeting data disappeared (approx 9 months ago), it still is recommended that a backup copy of the .ics calendar file(s) be created and stored elsewhere. This file (one for each calendar maintained) is found in the home>library>calendars folder.

12/05 Game On Man! Christmas is around the corner...

6/05 Attention Photoshop Enthusiasts!!
SIG Leader:
Jeffrey Tranberry, Adobe Systems, Inc.
The inaugural meeting of the new Twin Cities Photoshop User Group (Mac/Win) was held on Thursday, May 12th, 7pm-9pm and featured a sneak peek of Adobe Photoshop CS2 and the rest of the Adobe Creative Suite 2. The Photoshop SIG should meet every-other month.

6/05 A Giant Thanks to our SIG Leaders and Board of Directors- Miniapples is a volunteer organization. Without the unselfish efforts of our volunteers, especially our SIG Leaders, the Minnesota Apple Computer User Group would cease to exist. It is a tribute to Apple Computers that so many people feel so strongly about the MacOS and are willing to devote their time and effort to promoting the Mac experience. You guys and gals really make it happen! Thank you.

5/05 Digital Imaging/Photoshop SIG Leader Retiring After many years of dedicated service to the Photoshop SIG, SIG Leader Gary Eckhardt is retiring. The Board of Directors thanks Gary warmly for making this SIG happen. If you know Gary or see him at a meeting, say hello! If there is anyone who would like to run a Photoshop Special Interest Group please contact Dave Peck or anyone on the Board of Directors.

12/04 Apple Forums: Did you know that Apple.com hosts a complete set of Apple related forums for their hardware and software products? This is a great resource for getting answers.

12/04 FYI Miniapples maintains a mac.com address where you can access the Miniapples BBS software- First Class, and the Miniapples 25th Year Celebration pictures. 12/04Miniapples iCal Calendar- seems to have settled down. Info on it appears accurate. See the Calendar info page for what kind of problems it was having.

9/04-Main Mac SIG Leader Wanted! Miniapples is looking for a new Main Mac SIG Leader. You don't have to be a Mac technical wizard to run the SIG. Just spend some time arranging meeting places, presentations, and setting meeting agenda. There are many Mac related organizations in the Twin Cities area who are interested in making appearances. If interested in filling this important position within the club, please contact Dave Peck, Les Anderson or any of the Board of Directors.

5/04 The Apple Store MOA has an extensive presentation/training schedule- classes on a variety of programs. They have an iCal calendar where this schedule is published. View the calendar with your browser by clicking on the Apple Store Link. Or in iCal, go http://www.apple.com/retail/mallofamerica/ to subscibe to the calendar. 11/03 Miniapples Members! The First Class Sign-Up Article has been updated. If you haven't, get your self signed up! Your missing out on lots of great Mac discussion. Get Mac questions answered. :-)

11/03 MacJanitor
utility as featured in MacAddict has been added to the MacOSX Tips article in the Members Section.

11/03 Miniapples iCal Calendar Woes Update 11/13/03- It appears that if you view the calendar from the web site using the link, and then view an individual event, the time in the event-details can be off by hours, earlier or later. This may be a bug. However the time listed in the event header is correct. If there is a discrepancy, please go by the header time. Most SIG meetings start at 7pm (except the MacConsultants SIG-7am and Meet Your iMac SIG -6pm). Special events like the Novice Workshop and Annual Auction will have different start times.

As of iCal v1.5.1, html links now appear properly in the calendar. Due to an event where all of the club's meeting data disappeared, if you maintain an iCal calendar, it is recommended that a backup copy of the .ics calendar file(s) be created and stored elsewhere. This file (one for each calendar maintained) is found in the home>library>calendars folder. iCal Apple Discussions contain at least two threads regarding this possible bug.
